Often when decluttering, my clients like to either donate or sell their unwanted items. Facebook Marketplace is a fantastic and safe platform to make this happen. Often when on site at a client's home, I have listed, posted, and sold items while still working with my client on the overall project.
Below are some quick tips to get you started:
Photos, photos, and more photos. Take the item outside if possible for best lighting. The more the better and from various angles.
Let your writing skills flourish. Now is not the time to be brief. Measurements, tears, stains, favorite memories of the item. Let your inner Margaret Atwood flow.
Safety is key. Usually I set the items at the bottom of my driveway and folks leave payment (if applicable) in my mailbox. Even before the pandemic, I never had contact with the buyer. And have never had a problem with payment. People are essentially good.
Do NOT provide your home address until buyer confirms they are physically leaving to pick it up.
If meeting in public, practice all safety measures including wearing your mask and social distancing. Coffee shops are my personal favorite. #caffienerewards
Be responsive using Facebook Messenger. There are a lot of built in features to make this convenient.
Expect to negotiate (but only if you want, otherwise state that price is firm).
Stay away from Craigslist.
Investigate EBay and Mercari if that is your jam.
And lastly, email me if you have any questions or need assistance posting, promoting, or donating/selling your items. It's a very user-friendly platform, give it a try!
